A general note on MERI Entrance Examination

MERI
The Marine engineering and research
institute (MERI) entrance examination acronym (MERI) is an admission process to
the gateway of the T.S.Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Marine engineering and research
institute, Kolkata and Marine engineering and research institute, Mumbai. The
candidates are admitted to the following institutions for the below mentioned
courses.
a)
3 year course leading to the
B.Sc (nautical sciences) degree at the T.S. Chanakya, Navi Mumbai.
b)
4 year course leading to the
marine engineering degree at the marine engineering and research institute
(MERI), Kolkata and
c)
3 year Polyvalent B.Sc (Maritime
sciences) degree at the marine engineering and research institute (MERI),
Mumbai.
The candidates are admitted to the above
mentioned courses through the IIT- JEE conducted jointly by the seven IITs. There
is no separate entrance examination for admission to the above training
institutes and only those candidates who have selected/qualified in the IIT-JEE
examination are called for the month of July/August.
Out of the total seats, 10 seats are
available for the foreign nationals and can be learnt more about the seat
allocation from the MERI institutes.
Seat
availability
There are 156 seats available in T.S.
Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, 208 in MERI, Kolkata and MERI, Mumbai for which the
details can be directly obtained from the Indian Institute of maritime studies.
Reservation
of seats
15% are reserved for SC candidates, 7-1/2% for
ST candidates and 18% are reserved for OBC candidates belonging to the
non-creamy layer.
The All Indian nationals aspiring to get
admission to the above mentioned institutes must fill up the application form
for the IIT-JEE and a separate application form issued by the Indian institute
of maritime studies.

Age
limits
Male candidates born on or after the 1st
October 1988 are eligible to apply for the 2014 batch. The SC/ST candidates
will have to have the age limit of the date of 01.10.1983.
Academic
qualifications
The candidates aspiring for the courses
mentioned above should have successfully completed the senior secondary
examination or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
How
to apply for the MERI institutions for the admissions?
The application form for the MERI along
with the information brochure giving the details of the training programme at
the above three institutes, medical standards, etc can be obtained from the following designated branches of
Syndicate bank all over India for a payment of Rs.1000 (General/OBC) and Rs.800
for the SC/ST candidates.
