A general note on NEET Entrance Examination

NEET
The National eligibility and entrance
examination (NEET) or NEET-UG is a qualification examination in India for the
candidates who wish to pursue any undergraduate medical course (MBBS), dental
course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD/MS) in government or private medical
colleges in India. The NEET-UG for MBBS and BDS courses is conducted by the
central board of secondary education (CBSE). The first ever entrance
examination being conducted during the session of the 5th May, 2013.
The dental council of India also amended
the BDS course regulations 2007 and notified in the gazette of India dated 31st
May, 2012 that admission to BDS course in each academic year shall be through
the national eligibility and entrance examination. The MCI medical council of
India and other dental council of India have mentioned that the central board
of secondary education will be the governing authority and conducting partner
of the entrance examination.
The responsibility of the CBSE is limited
to the conduct of the entrance examination, declaration of the result and
providing merit list to the counselling authorities. The participating institutes of the CBSE will
be 353 medical colleges and 297 dental colleges across the country.
Eligibility
criteria
The candidates are requested to go through
the eligibility criteria before applying for the entrance examination.
1.
The candidates should have an
aggregate of 50% in total in Physics, chemistry and Biology for the general
category. The candidate should have 40% in aggregate in the same subjects for
the SC/ST category. The candidate should have 45% aggregate for the physically
disabled category.
2.
The students must pass the
Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects individually.
3.
The candidate should have
minimum 17 years and maximum 25 years at the time of admissions.
4.
The upper age limit is relaxed
by the 5 years for the SC/ST category.
Examination
Pattern
The NEET UG 2014 examination is a 3 hour
exam wherein the candidates have to answer a single paper consisting of the 180
objective Type of questions from the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and
Biology.

form
The candidates will be able to apply in
online mode by logging in to www.cbseneet.nic.in.
Application
fee
The application fee for NEET UG 2013 was
Rs.1000 for the candidates belonging to the General/OBC categories and rs.550
for those belonging to the Sc/ST/PwD categories. The applications could also be
submitted after the deadline and before the date of 05/02/2013 after payment of
a late fee of Rs.1000. the application fee for the NEET UG 2014 can be expected
to be the same amount.
